I looked up Trove record of July 1946 Examiner.....Cornwall Square Army Huts to provide shelter for homeless families due to severe lack of housing after WW2...The State Govt bought the huts which form the Army Leave and Transit Depot on Cornwall Square. They will be converted immediately to house ....families on a temporary semi communal basus.
They were there til about 1953-4The question now in 2026 is why nobody in govt or LCC care enough to do what was done in 1946?..

Hmmm, it’s a sad state of affairs… I drive past housing departments and there are MANY empty. I know there is a process to go through before these houses are allocated but I’ve said it time and time again, it seems the longer these are empty the more chance of someone burning them out as they do
and here’s another idea. If I were homeless I would be finding these empty houses and pitch a tent in their yards. Access to water and a safe space until (ironically) housing Tasmania try to evict the homeless from an empty property they are too slow to allocate to someone in need.
